Islamabad / Washington — March 29, 2026
US President Donald Trump reposted Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar’s post on Truth Social early Sunday, amplifying a major diplomatic development in the ongoing US-Iran conflict.
Dar announced that Iran had agreed to allow 20 more Pakistani-flagged ships to transit the Strait of Hormuz, with two ships permitted to cross the strategic waterway daily. (Al Arabiya) He described it as “a welcome and constructive gesture by Iran” and called it “a harbinger of peace” that would help bring stability to the region.
The development came as Pakistan stepped up its diplomatic efforts since the start of the US-Israel and Iran conflict, playing a key facilitating role — efforts that also contributed to President Trump postponing planned military strikes on Iranian power plants.
The stakes could not be higher. An estimated 2,000 vessels are stranded on either side of the narrow waterway, and oil has surged past $100 a barrel — up roughly 40 percent — since the conflict began. The strait carries 20 percent of global liquefied natural gas and a quarter of the world’s seaborne oil.
Pakistan has been relaying indirect messages between Washington and Tehran. Dar confirmed that the US presented a 15-point framework to Iran through Pakistan, which Iran is currently deliberating upon.
Trump has already extended his deadline for Iran to reopen the strait, pausing threatened strikes on Iranian energy infrastructure until April 6, 2026.
On Sunday, Islamabad is also hosting the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Egypt for in-depth discussions aimed at reducing tensions and working toward an end to the conflict.
Trump’s decision to personally amplify Dar’s post is seen by analysts as a public acknowledgement of Pakistan’s growing influence as a neutral back-channel between two nuclear-armed adversaries at a critical juncture for global energy security.
