Kabul / Abu Dhabi — March 29, 2026
Afghan Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi has stated that Afghanistan, as a neighbouring country, wishes to resolve all outstanding issues with Pakistan through dialogue and mutual understanding — and that no party will be permitted to use Afghan soil against Pakistan.
The statement came following a telephone conversation between Muttaqi and UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, during which the two sides discussed bilateral relations, Afghanistan-US issues, the broader regional situation, and recent developments between Kabul and Islamabad.
According to a statement issued by Afghanistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Muttaqi affirmed that all Afghan military actions against Pakistan had been purely defensive in nature, while reserving the right to legitimate self-defence in the event of any future aggression.
Muttaqi also thanked the UAE for its successful mediation in securing the release of an American prisoner, and expressed readiness to fully resolve remaining issues through bilateral channels.
On the wider regional crisis, Muttaqi condemned the US-Israeli war against Iran, calling the escalation deeply worrying and a serious threat to the security of the entire region. He praised the UAE’s measured and patient approach in navigating the crisis.
The Emirati Foreign Minister, in turn, stated that tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan were not in the interest of either side, and that the UAE would continue its efforts to facilitate a peaceful resolution to the dispute.
The statement is being viewed as a significant diplomatic signal, as it comes at a time of heightened Pakistan-Afghanistan border tensions and amid a rapidly shifting regional security landscape driven by the ongoing US-Iran conflict.
