MADRID, March 30, 2026 — In a bold and significant diplomatic move, Spain has denied the United States access to its airspace and military bases for any operations related to the war against Iran, Spanish Defence Minister announced.
“American aircraft will neither be permitted to use our bases nor will they be granted access to our airspace for the war in Iran,” the Defence Minister stated firmly, marking one of the sharpest public rebukes by a NATO ally against US military operations in the region.
The Spanish Defence Minister went further, labelling the war against Iran as illegal and deeply unjust, signalling Madrid’s strong opposition to the ongoing military campaign.
Spain’s decision reflects a growing divide within NATO and Western allies over the legitimacy and consequences of military action against Iran. The move is expected to add considerable diplomatic pressure on Washington at a time when the conflict continues to escalate across the Middle East.
No immediate response from the US Department of Defense or the White House has been issued at the time of this report.
