Bank SMS Charges Under Scrutiny as Rs 3.40 Per Message Fee Revealed

Islamabad: A parliamentary standing committee has raised concerns after it was revealed that banks are charging customers up to Rs 3.40 per SMS for alert services.
During the meeting, the committee sought a one-year record of SMS charges collected from consumers by banks and telecom companies to assess the scale and justification of these fees.
Representatives from banks and telecom operators reportedly attempted to shift responsibility onto each other, prompting the committee to demand clear explanations and greater transparency.
Lawmakers emphasized that imposing additional financial burdens on consumers is unacceptable and called for clearer regulations and oversight on such charges.
