Islamabad (International Desk) — Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has strongly condemned the recent sharp increase in petroleum product prices, terming it a “petrol bomb” on the masses, and announced large-scale protest marches and demonstrations across the country.
Senior PTI leader Salman Akram Raja stated that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi will address a major rally at Liaquat Bagh, Rawalpindi on 9 April 2026. He warned that if permission is not granted, the decision will be taken on the streets and protests will continue peacefully.
Additionally, on 7 April, following a call by Aleema Khan, at least 10,000 PTI office-bearers will gather outside Adiala Jail. A press conference will also be held on the occasion. Aleema Khan emphasized the need to increase pressure for the release of PTI founder Imran Khan and to end his isolation.
PTI has rejected the hike in petrol (now around Rs458 per litre) and diesel prices, announcing protests in front of press clubs in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other provinces. The party demanded that the government immediately withdraw the price increase, saying it will further burden the common man and exacerbate inflation.
PTI leaders affirmed that the party will continue its struggle through constitutional and peaceful means for the supremacy of the Constitution, judicial independence, and the release of Imran Khan. The upcoming actions also mark four years since the regime change.
