Peshawar — Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Tuesday announced nationwide protests this Friday against the recent surge in petroleum prices, calling the hike a direct assault on the common man’s livelihood.
Addressing a press conference in Peshawar following a two-day session of the party’s Central Shura, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said the fuel price increase had “shaken every household” and stripped ordinary citizens of economic stability.
The JUI-F chief also lashed out at what he described as “un-Islamic” legislation, demanding the immediate repeal of laws related to domestic violence, transgender rights, and restrictions on underage marriage. He further expressed strong opposition to proposed legislation that would grant wives a 50 percent share in their husband’s property.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman announced that a formal anti-government movement would be launched from Mardan on April 12. He also called on the government to convene an in-camera session of parliament to brief opposition parties on national security matters and the country’s foreign policy direction, particularly regarding the situation on Pakistan’s eastern and western borders.
