LAHORE: At least 10 people were killed and 1,617 others injured in 1,388 road traffic crashes across Punjab over the past 24 hours, according to data released by the Emergency Services Department Punjab.
The report stated that 707 critically injured victims were shifted to hospitals, while 910 individuals with minor injuries were treated on-site by rescue medical teams, significantly reducing the burden on healthcare facilities.
Motorbike-related accidents accounted for a staggering 77 percent of the total crashes, highlighting the urgent need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws and improved lane discipline.
According to the data, victims included 901 drivers, 46 underage drivers, 209 pedestrians, and 517 passengers.
Lahore reported the highest number of accidents, with 298 crashes affecting 357 people, followed by Faisalabad with 96 incidents and 113 victims, and Multan with 93 crashes injuring 97 individuals.
A demographic breakdown revealed that 1,627 victims included 1,291 men and 336 women. Among them, 336 were under the age of 18, 811 were between 18 and 40 years, and 480 were above 40.
The report further indicated that 1,470 motorbikes were involved in the accidents, along with 106 auto-rickshaws, 169 cars, 38 vans, 20 passenger buses, 28 trucks, and 82 other vehicles, including slow-moving carts.
Authorities have urged road users to follow traffic regulations and safety measures to help curb the rising number of accidents across the province.
