Beijing/New Delhi:
China and India have announced a series of key steps aimed at improving their strained bilateral relations. Both countries agreed to resume direct flights, reissue tourist visas, and revive cross-border trade — developments that mark a significant thaw in ties between the two Asian neighbors.
According to China’s Foreign Ministry, the resumption of flights will not only strengthen people-to-people exchanges but also inject fresh momentum into trade and economic cooperation. The reintroduction of tourist visas, suspended for years, is expected to restore cultural and social interactions between the two nations.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs welcomed the decision, calling it a “positive confidence-building measure” that could bring tangible benefits to border regions by reviving local economies.
Relations between China and India sharply deteriorated in 2020 following violent clashes in Ladakh, which led to the suspension of direct connectivity and a freeze in people-to-people ties. Analysts now view the latest developments as a step toward rebuilding trust.
Experts believe these measures indicate that both Beijing and New Delhi are choosing to prioritize shared interests over perpetual hostility. If sustained, this rapprochement could contribute to regional stability and open new avenues for economic cooperation in South Asia
