Pakistan has emerged as the focal point of global diplomacy following the US-Iran ceasefire, as Islamabad prepares to host high-stakes negotiations between Washington and Tehran today and tomorrow. Delegation-level talks are scheduled for Friday, with the critical main round of negotiations set for Saturday.
The American delegation will be led by Vice President JD Vance, alongside chief negotiator Steve Witkoff and presidential son-in-law Jared Kushner. Iran will be represented by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Parliament Speaker Baqer Qalibaf — signalling the high priority Tehran has placed on the talks.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif personally visited the venue to review security arrangements, underscoring the significance Pakistan has attached to hosting the landmark event. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who met with US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker, confirmed that the American delegation would be received as “special guests of Pakistan.”
The White House spokeswoman said the discussions would take place behind closed doors, adding that Washington would only agree to a deal that serves America’s best interests.
Pakistan’s role as host is being viewed internationally as a significant diplomatic achievement, reflecting Islamabad’s growing influence as a neutral mediator in regional conflicts.
