A leading American newspaper has revealed dramatic behind-the-scenes details of the frantic diplomatic push that secured the US-Iran ceasefire just hours before President Trump’s deadline was set to expire.
According to the report, emergency diplomatic efforts were triggered after Iran signalled it might walk away from negotiations entirely. What followed was a rapid, coordinated multilateral intervention involving several key regional and global powers.
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Foreign Minister made direct calls to their Iranian counterparts, urging Tehran to remain engaged. Simultaneously, Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey also reached out to Iranian leadership to prevent a breakdown in talks.
The most pivotal moment came over the critical issue of the Strait of Hormuz. China, with its immense economic leverage over Iran, stepped in at the eleventh hour and played a decisive role in persuading Tehran to agree to keep the strategic waterway open — a key American demand.
In perhaps the most significant disclosure, the report states that Pakistani Field Marshal Asim Munir personally briefed President Donald Trump at 5:00 PM US time, conveying the ceasefire terms in detail. Trump responded that if Iran was willing to accept those conditions, so was he.
The revelations cast Pakistan in the role of a crucial back-channel broker, whose quiet but effective diplomacy at a critical juncture helped avert a potentially catastrophic escalation and brought one of the most dangerous stand-offs in recent history to a close.
