Karachi —
In a small but significant victory for citizens’ rights, a Karachi resident has won a court case against a wrongful e-challan issued by the city’s traffic police. A local court accepted the citizen’s petition, annulled the disputed fine, and issued a stern directive to the traffic police to exercise due diligence before issuing e-challans in the future.
According to details, on February 27, the citizen was issued an e-challan of Rs. 10,000 for alleged illegal parking in the Saddar area of Karachi. Disputing the charge as entirely false, the citizen approached the court seeking justice — and the court ruled in his favour.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the court found the citizen’s position to be valid and declared the e-challan null and void. Traffic police were instructed to ensure that no citizen is fined without concrete evidence, and that the automated e-challan system must not be misused as a tool for arbitrary penalisation.
The ruling has been widely welcomed by Karachi residents, many of whom have complained about receiving incorrect or fabricated e-challans in recent months. Legal observers say the verdict sets a positive precedent, encouraging citizens to challenge wrongful fines through proper legal channels rather than paying unjust penalties.
