EXCLUSIVE: Term time is nearing for Maxton Hall – The World Between Us Season 2, and we can now reveal seven new cast members and more detail on the plot.
The Prime Video YA hit will return on November 7, with leads Damian Hardung and Harriet Herbig-Matten joined by the newly cast Dagny Dewath (Robin Hood), Proschat Madani (Walking on Sunshine, Tatort), Anna Lucia Gustmann (Unter Uns), Basil Eidenbenz (The Athena, The Witcher), Laura de Boer (King of the Skies, Die Saat – Tödliche Macht) and social media star Kiro Ebra, with Gina Henkel (Krzyk: Losing Control, Wann Kommst du Meine Wunden Küssen) joining in a recast role.
Sonja Weißer,Ben Felipe,Fedja van Huêt,Runa Greiner,Justus Riesner,Andrea Guo,Frederic Balonier andEli Riccardi have already been announced as returning cast.
Set in the fictional ultra-elite British private school Maxton Hall, the series follows the unexpected romance of Ruby Bell (Herbig-Matten), a brilliant and determined young woman whose background differs from her wealthy classmates, and James Beaufort (Hardung), a privileged student and arrogant heir. Though it’s set in the British private education system, it’s produced out of Germany by Fremantle-owned UFA Fiction.
Per the synopsis on Season 2: “The greatest high leads to a deep fall… Ruby is devastated. She has never had such strong feelings for anyone as she does for James. And she’s never been so hurt by anyone either. She wants her old life back – when no one at Maxton Hall knew her and she wasn’t part of the elitist and spoiled world of her classmates. But she can’t forget James. Especially because he’s trying everything to win her back.”
From the new cast members, Dewart will play Ophelia Beaufort, the younger sister of James and his twin sister Lydia’s mother Cordelia Beaufort, who has secretly been in contact with her sibling and becomes an ally to the young lovers. Madani plays Alice Campbell, an influential businesswoman who wants to reward Ruby with a private scholarship at Oxford University after the teenager organizes a gala for her foundation, only to find her values tested by the Beaufort twins’ father, Mortimer Beaufort (Fedja van Huêt).
Gustman will be Campbell’s perfectionist assistant May Clancey, while Eidenbenz is Frederick Ellington, the older brother of Maxton students Alistair and Elaine, who cannot understand why his younger siblings constantly oppose traditions. De Boer plays Mortimer Beaufort’s new assistant, whose exacting standards and regular visits to the Beaufort Villa upset the twins, and Ebra is Forest, who is part of British high society and hits it off with James’ best friend, Alistair, at a fundraising gala.
Finally, Gina Henkel has replaced Julia-Maria Köhler as Helen Bell, Ruby’s loving and energetic mother who dreams of owning the bakery in which she works. Deadline hears Köhler couldn’t make the shoot timing work.
Season 2 of Maxton Hall is among Prime Video’s most-anticipated originals of 2025, with the record-breaking first season launching back in May last year. It occupied the number one spot of the Prime Video Charts in more than 120 countries and territories and is top three in more than 50 countries including the U.S., UK, Mexico, Brazil, Australia, Canada and South Africa.
Deadline exclusively revealed in March that Season 2 was set to drop before the end of 2025, and a third season based on Mona Kasten’s third novel in her bestselling YA trilogy was confirmed in June.
Season 2 is based on the second book. Details on it have been scarce, with shooting actually wrapping nearly a year ago in Germany. Amazon told us the delay between wrap and release was down to “intensely working on a first class production and music composition for the series, including comprehensive language versions,” adding: “We promise the wait will be worth it.”
