Lahore —
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to retain Shan Masood as Test captain while appointing former skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed as the new Head Coach, replacing Azhar Mahmood in the role. It will be Sarfaraz’s first stint as a head coach at the international level.
According to sources, the PCB will make the formal announcements alongside the release of the schedule for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh. Pakistan are expected to feature in three back-to-back Test series against Bangladesh, West Indies, and England in the coming months.
Pakistan last played a Test series in October, drawing one-all against South Africa. The decision to retain Masood reflects the board’s commitment to a policy of consistency in leadership.
Sarfaraz, who currently serves as a national selector, will take charge of the red-ball setup while New Zealand’s Mike Hesson continues as Head Coach of the white-ball side. Shaheen Shah Afridi leads the ODI team, with Salman Ali Agha captaining the T20I squad.
