The OIC Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (OIC-COMSTECH) and Huawei Technologies Pakistan have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish the COMSTECH-Huawei ICT Academy, marking a major milestone in digital capacity building across the 57 OIC member and 5 observer states.
The MoU signing and inauguration ceremony was held at the OIC-COMSTECH Secretariat in Islamabad. Speaking at the event, Huawei Pakistan CEO Ethan Sun said the academy reflects the company’s long-term commitment to equipping youth with the digital skills needed to thrive in the global economy, adding that initiatives like “Seeds for the Future” underscore Huawei’s investment in nurturing regional digital talent.
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority Chairman Major General (R) Hafeez Ur Rehman graced the occasion as Chief Guest, commending the initiative as a strategic investment in the region’s digital future.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General OIC-COMSTECH, described the partnership as a transformative step toward digital self-reliance across the OIC region, enabling youth to acquire cutting-edge skills and contribute to innovation-driven development.
The academy will offer specialised certifications in 5G, Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, and Cybersecurity, and is equipped with advanced digital learning infrastructure supporting virtual instruction, hands-on training, and real-time collaboration. Ambassadors and senior diplomats from Somalia, Malaysia, Morocco, Mauritius, Azerbaijan, Algeria, and Brunei Darussalam attended the ceremony.
