Lahore: The Punjab government has transferred Rs22 billion to more than 1.2 million workers under the Maryam Nawaz Rashan Card programme, marking a major step in its social welfare initiative aimed at supporting low-income households.
According to officials, the Punjab Social Security Department has successfully completed the opening of bank accounts for over 1.2 million registered workers, enabling direct financial assistance.
The programme, launched under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, provides a monthly ration subsidy of Rs3,000 to each registered worker to help ease the burden of rising living costs.
Provincial Minister for Labour and Human Resource Muhammad Mansha Ullah Butt said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to worker welfare and economic relief.
He noted that the account-opening process was completed in a record time, three months ahead of schedule, under the supervision of Secretary Labour Danish Afzal and Commissioner Social Security Zulfiqar Ali Kharal.
The minister appreciated the performance of Social Security officials for ensuring that all registered workers are able to benefit from the programme without delay.
He added that the monthly subsidy is already providing tangible financial relief to workers and contributing to an improvement in their economic conditions.
