Muzaffarabad (International Desk): Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Police have arrested a suspected agent of India’s intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) in Rawalakot. The suspect, identified as Irfan, was allegedly involved in reconnaissance of sensitive installations, recording videos and sharing critical information with his handlers.
Addressing a press conference in Muzaffarabad, Inspector General of AJK Police Captain (R) Liaquat Ali Malik said that Rawalakot Police conducted a timely intelligence-based operation leading to Irfan’s arrest. The suspect was in contact with a RAW handler named ‘Shahid’ via social media and was providing videos, photographs, and location details of sensitive sites, including military installations and educational institutions.
Suspect’s Confession: During interrogation, Irfan reportedly confessed that he was lured through the internet with an offer of an online job. He admitted to conducting reconnaissance of sensitive locations and transmitting the gathered intelligence to his foreign handlers.
The IG claimed that the arrested individual was also involved in planning potential attacks on military and educational targets. Further investigation is underway to dismantle the broader espionage network and identify other linked operatives.
This arrest comes days after security agencies arrested three other individuals allegedly working for RAW from Narowal, Bahawalpur, and Neelum district in Azad Kashmir.
A case has been registered against the suspect under the Official Secrets Act, and legal proceedings are in progress.
