Tehran: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has announced the arrest of more than 120 individuals across the country, claiming they were affiliated with the United States, United Kingdom, and Israel and were “preparing the groundwork for a military attack by the enemy.”
According to Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency, the detainees were allegedly involved in espionage activities, including collecting coordinates of sensitive sites, planning sabotage, and sending information to foreign handlers.
The arrests were carried out in multiple provinces: seven suspects in East Azerbaijan province were accused of preparing weapons and transmitting location data of sensitive installations. Sixty-nine individuals were detained in Mazandaran province, while 51 more — including three alleged “espionage teams” — were arrested in Kerman province.
Iranian authorities described the operation as a major blow to foreign-linked networks attempting to facilitate external military strikes against the Islamic Republic. The move comes amid heightened regional tensions between Iran and the US-Israel alliance.
No independent verification of the claims was immediately available, and such announcements by Iranian security forces are often viewed with skepticism internationally, frequently linked to broader internal security crackdowns.
This latest development underscores the ongoing shadow war and mutual accusations of espionage and sabotage between Iran and its adversaries.
