Washington ): US President Donald Trump has firmly warned Iran against attempting to close the Strait of Hormuz again, stating that the United States will not be blackmailed.
Speaking to reporters at the White House on Saturday, Trump said: “They wanted to close up the strait again – you know, as they’ve been doing for years – and they can’t blackmail us.” He added that talks with Iran are “working out very well” and that clarity on a potential US-Iran agreement is expected today.
The remarks came after Iranian forces announced the re-imposition of “strict military control” over the strategic waterway in response to the ongoing US blockade of Iranian ports. Trump described Iran’s move as the country trying to “get a little cute,” but insisted the US would not yield to such pressure.
Trump expressed optimism about reaching a long-term deal with Iran, covering its nuclear program and other regional issues. He hinted that today could be “a great and brilliant day” if negotiations progress positively, though he has previously warned that the current ceasefire may not be extended beyond its expiry if no agreement is reached.
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical chokepoint for global oil supplies, and any disruption risks spiking international energy prices. The latest escalation highlights the fragile nature of the ceasefire and ongoing tensions between Washington and Tehran.
This development is being closely watched by oil markets and international allies amid fears of broader regional instability.
