LAHORE: The Government of Punjab has released funds for a diesel subsidy project aimed at providing relief to farmers amid rising petroleum prices.
According to an official statement, the Finance Department has disbursed Rs 1.60 billion for farmers registered under the Kissan Card programme.
Under the scheme, farmers owning up to 25 acres of land and cultivating wheat will be eligible for the subsidy. The government will provide a subsidy of Rs 150 per litre on up to 10 litres of diesel per acre.
Only registered cultivators holding a valid Kissan Card will be entitled to receive the subsidy.
The initiative follows an announcement by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, who pledged relief measures for farmers in response to the increase in petroleum product prices.
Under the government’s policy, the subsidy will be strictly provided to eligible and registered farmers to ensure transparency and targeted support.
