LAHORE: In a significant move to promote girls’ education, the District Education Authority Kasur (DEA), in collaboration with YouTube, has launched a “Model District Enrollment Campaign” in Kasur.
As part of the initiative, an “Enrollment Campaign Mela” was organized at Government Girls Elementary School, Basti Choop Shah, aimed at increasing girls’ enrollment and retention in public schools through community engagement and innovative approaches.
Advisor to the Minister of Education Shakeel Ahmed Bhatti attended the event as Chief Guest, while Assistant Commissioner Ghulam Fatima was the Guest of Honour. The event saw participation from over 250 attendees, including education officials, Assistant Education Officers, female head teachers, representatives of the Punjab Female Head Teachers Network, and local community members.
At the outset, 100 girls were enrolled and provided with school bags and books. The campaign was developed based on a pre-Mela survey incorporating feedback from local stakeholders, while an active social media campaign helped enhance outreach.
A key highlight of the event was the active role of the Punjab Female Head Teachers Network, which contributed significantly to organizing the Mela. Six thematic stalls were set up, focusing on Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE), “Learning Beyond Walls,” happy learning hours, STEM education, digital classrooms, and the use of social media and artificial intelligence in education.
Students also participated enthusiastically through PT shows and advocacy slogans promoting girls’ right to education.
Participants described the initiative as aligned with the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and Provincial Minister for Education Rana Sikandar Hayat.
CEO DEA Kasur Shoukat Ali Khan announced the launch of a dedicated YouTube channel to support online teaching and learning, adding that the campaign aims to generate practical policy recommendations for implementation at district and provincial levels.
District Education Officer Nasira Bashir highlighted the importance of student retention, noting previous trends of declining enrollment after initial registration. Meanwhile, DEO Lahore Dr. Nazia Asif termed the initiative a “replicable model of district-led change,” while CEO Iqbal Haider Butt stressed the importance of community ownership of schools.
Additionally, Muzammil Majeed emphasized strengthening the digital presence and record-keeping of schools.
The campaign sets a strong precedent for other districts across Punjab, offering a scalable and effective model to improve access, participation, and continuity in girls’ education.
