LAHORE: The Directorate General Public Relations (DGPR) Punjab has issued a statement confirming that payments to wheat farmers will be ensured within 72 hours, according to Secretary Food Safety and Consumer Protection Dr. Kiran Khurshid.
During a surprise visit to various wheat procurement centres in Kasur, Dr. Khurshid reviewed the distribution of gunny bags (bardana) and inspected the overall wheat procurement process. She said that, on the instructions of the Chief Minister Punjab, all available resources are being utilized to ensure fair compensation for farmers’ produce.
The Secretary also examined the farmer registration process at procurement centres and directed staff to further improve transparency and accelerate the pace of procurement.
According to Dr. Khurshid, wheat is being purchased from farmers in Punjab at a rate of Rs 3,500 per maund under the government policy. She added that priority is being given to Kisan Card holders and small farmers during the procurement process.
She further stated that free gunny bags worth Rs 6 billion are being provided to farmers, while payments for wheat purchases will be ensured within 72 hours to facilitate the farming community and strengthen the agriculture sector.
