CHANTILLY, FRANCE
The United Arab Emirates has formally labelled Iran a permanent strategic threat to the region, with UAE Presidential Adviser Anwar Gargash declaring that restoring confidence with Tehran will require “a very long time.”
Speaking at the World Policy Conference in Chantilly, France, Gargash revealed that approximately 2,800 Iranian missile and drone strikes were launched during the conflict, of which a staggering 89 percent deliberately targeted civilian populations, critical infrastructure, and energy systems.
“The level of distrust in the region has deepened significantly,” Gargash stated, adding that Iran would no longer be viewed as merely a regional rival but as a permanent strategic threat going forward.
The remarks signal a major shift in Gulf foreign policy posture toward Iran and are likely to further complicate any future diplomatic engagement between Tehran and its Arab neighbours. Analysts say the UAE’s position could influence broader regional security arrangements in the months ahead.
