Islamabad —
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian held a nearly 50-minute telephonic conversation on Friday, discussing the current regional situation, ongoing efforts for peace and stability, and bilateral relations between the two countries.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, PM Shehbaz commended the participation of an Iranian delegation — led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi — in talks held in Islamabad on April 11 and 12. Araghchi also met separately with the Prime Minister today in a detailed two-hour meeting.
PM Shehbaz briefed President Pezeshkian on his recent diplomatic engagements, noting that outreach to world leaders had helped build broader consensus in favour of dialogue and diplomacy as the path to lasting peace. He also praised the Field Marshal’s visit to Tehran and productive discussions held with Iranian leadership, and conveyed warm regards to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei.
President Pezeshkian expressed appreciation for the peace efforts of Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Field Marshal, and Foreign Minister, and said that the fraternal ties between Iran and Pakistan would grow stronger in the years ahead. Both leaders agreed to maintain close contact and continue mutual consultations.
In a separate development, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan spoke with Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar by telephone. Fidan stated that key points on the Iran-US nuclear issue are expected to be resolved in the second round of negotiations.
