LAHORE: At least 12 people were killed and 1,440 injured in 1,224 road traffic crashes reported across Punjab over the past 24 hours, according to data released by the Emergency Services Department Punjab.
Officials said 627 critically injured victims were shifted to hospitals, while 813 with minor injuries were treated on-site by rescue medical teams, helping ease pressure on healthcare facilities.
Motorcycles accounted for the majority of accidents, with around 75 percent of cases involving two-wheelers, highlighting the urgent need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws and lane discipline.
The data further revealed that 807 drivers, 60 underage drivers, 161 pedestrians, and 406 passengers were among those affected.
Among major cities, Lahore recorded the highest number of incidents, with 227 crashes affecting 281 people. It was followed by Faisalabad with 80 accidents and 87 victims, and Multan with 71 crashes also resulting in 87 injuries.
In total, 1,452 individuals were affected, including 1,140 men and 312 women. Age-wise, 225 victims were under 18 years, 821 were between 18 and 40 years, while 406 were above 40.
The report also highlighted the types of vehicles involved, including 1,315 motorcycles, 85 auto-rickshaws, 122 cars, 26 vans, 13 passenger buses, 50 trucks, and 60 other vehicles, including slow-moving carts.
Authorities have urged road users to follow traffic regulations, particularly helmet use and adherence to lane discipline, to curb the rising number of accidents.
