Lahore, May 2, 2026 — Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif presided over a key meeting on energy sector reforms, directing comprehensive measures to ease the burden on domestic and industrial electricity consumers.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a high-level meeting in Lahore on Saturday to review reforms in Pakistan’s energy sector. The meeting focused on reducing electricity costs, improving transmission infrastructure, and ensuring uninterrupted power supply to boost industrial growth.
The Prime Minister directed authorities to significantly reduce line losses by upgrading the power transmission system and to actively promote the use of modern technology in the energy sector. He also issued instructions to accelerate renewable energy projects to bridge the country’s energy deficit and to formulate a comprehensive strategy for stabilising electricity tariffs.
PM Shehbaz stressed the promotion of digital payment facilities to ease bill payments for consumers and called for strict continuation of measures against electricity theft. He emphasised that energy reforms would not be pursued without keeping the broader interests of the public and industry at the forefront.
“Providing relief to domestic consumers remains among the government’s top priorities,” the Prime Minister stated.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Power Minister Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervez Malik, Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani, Special Assistant Haroon Akhtar, and senior officials of relevant institutions.
