Tehran, May 2, 2026 — A senior Iranian military commander has issued a stern warning that any negotiations or agreements with the United States cannot be trusted, cautioning that the region risks sliding back into open conflict if Washington fails to change course.
The commander stated that history stands as a clear witness to the fact that the United States has never honoured any agreement, promise, or international principle it has committed to. He stressed that Iran remains fully prepared to confront any scenario and will respond decisively to any act of aggression.
The remarks come amid ongoing tensions between Tehran and Washington over Iran’s nuclear programme and regional influence, with diplomatic talks remaining fragile. Iranian officials have repeatedly expressed scepticism over US intentions, citing Washington’s 2018 unilateral withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) as a defining example of American unreliability on the world stage.
The statement is seen as a strong signal from Tehran that it will not lower its guard despite any diplomatic overtures, and that any future agreement must be backed by concrete guarantees rather than verbal assurances.
