LAHORE, May 4: On the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the provincial government has taken another step toward ensuring public health, as construction of water bottling plants is underway in four cities across the province.
The progress was reviewed during a meeting of the Punjab Saaf Pani Authority, chaired by Provincial Minister for Housing and Urban Development Bilal Yasin. Officials, including CEO Syed Ali Asghar and DG Projects Mazhar Khan, briefed the minister on ongoing initiatives.
During the meeting, Bilal Yasin expressed dissatisfaction over delays in achieving project targets and directed officials to accelerate work. He emphasized that, alongside modern filtration systems, water bottling plants are being developed to improve access to safe drinking water.
In the North Zone, water sourced from small dams will be treated and supplied to nearby villages through pipeline networks. The minister highlighted that the government’s vision is to ensure the provision of clean drinking water to every citizen, particularly in rural areas.
He further noted that projects utilizing arsenic-free and modern water treatment technologies are underway in multiple cities. Efforts are also being made to restore and reactivate hundreds of non-functional filtration plants across Punjab.
Bilal Yasin said that improving water quality would significantly reduce waterborne diseases and contribute to building a healthier society. He added that steps are also being taken to strengthen operation and maintenance systems to ensure the long-term sustainability of these projects.
