LAHORE: The Department of Parasitology at the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore, in collaboration with the Pakistan Society of Parasitology, organized a two-day workshop titled “Application of Flow Cytometry to Study Immune Response Against Vaccines” at the City Campus Lahore.
UVAS Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Masood Rabbani presided over the inaugural session of the workshop. The ceremony was attended by Dean Faculty of Veterinary Science Prof. Dr. Kamran Ashraf, Prof. Dr. Asim Aslam, Prof. Dr. Imran Rashid, Prof. Dr. Haroon Akbar, Dr. Muhammad Suleman, along with researchers, participants, and postgraduate students.
Addressing the participants, Prof. Dr. Masood Rabbani emphasized that the purpose of such training workshops should not merely be obtaining certificates but enhancing professional competencies and practical skills related to the field.
He stated that dedication and hard work are essential for achieving success and stressed that the process of acquiring knowledge and practical expertise should continue throughout life. He also advised students and professionals to utilize their knowledge and skills for the betterment of society and share the expertise gained from such training programs with fellow professionals.
During the workshop, experts discussed various topics related to parasitic challenges and vaccine development in Pakistan, principles and applications of flow cytometry in veterinary sciences, and interpretation of flow cytometry results.
The workshop aimed to provide modern research and diagnostic skill development opportunities to veterinarians, professionals, researchers, and postgraduate students associated with livestock, immunology, and related scientific fields.
Meanwhile, the Office of Research Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) at UVAS also organized a seminar regarding the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) call for research projects.
Director Animal Health (PARC) Dr. Abdul Razzaq delivered a detailed lecture to UVAS researchers and faculty members on priority research areas and topics, methods to secure Agriculture Linkages Program (ALP) grants, proposal submission guidelines under the current ALP call, thematic research areas, and expectations from researchers participating in the program.
