Former Jamaat-e-Islami chief Siraj ul Haq has delivered a sharp double-edged critique — targeting both the federal government and his own former ally, the PTI-led Khyber Pakhtunkhwa administration — in a single statement that is rapidly gaining traction on social media.
Taking aim at the federal government, Siraj ul Haq said:
“When the nation tells the federation that oil is expensive, gas is expensive, the poor can barely survive — the answer they get is: ‘We have shot down planes.'”
Turning his criticism toward the KP government, he added:
“When the KP government is questioned about the province’s misery and deteriorating conditions, the answer is: ‘Our man is in jail.'”
The statement is being widely interpreted as a simultaneous indictment of the federal coalition’s tendency to use military achievements as a deflection from economic failures, and PTI’s habit of citing Imran Khan’s imprisonment as an excuse for poor governance in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa — a province where PTI has held power for over a decade.
Political observers note that Siraj ul Haq, who led JI until recently, has increasingly positioned himself as a voice of accountability outside the two dominant political camps.
