JICA Delegation Meets CDA Chairman Sohail Ashraf to Boost Islamabad’s Water Infrastructure

Islamabad: Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Sohail Ashraf, held a detailed meeting with a delegation from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to enhance water sector reforms and development projects in the federal capital.
The primary objective of the meeting was to explore further avenues of technical assistance from JICA for improving water supply, management, and infrastructure in Islamabad. Both sides agreed that JICA will prepare a comprehensive Master Plan for Water Supply, Sewerage, and Drainage for the city. The Master Plan will be designed keeping in view Islamabad’s future requirements and will remain viable till 2060.
During the meeting, Sohail Ashraf emphasized the importance of ensuring uninterrupted and clean drinking water for the citizens of Islamabad through sustainable and long-term solutions. He highlighted ongoing efforts to prevent water wastage, eliminate line losses, and promote water conservation.
“Shahdara and Dootara Dams are vital projects for the city. JICA’s technical support will be sought for these initiatives. Construction work on Shahdara Dam has already begun,” Sohail Ashraf said.
He further stated that multiple steps are being taken for the upgradation of basic water infrastructure, including full utilization of JICA’s technical expertise for the Simli and Sangjani Water Filtration Plants.
The JICA delegation expressed full readiness to provide complete technical cooperation for resolving water-related issues in Islamabad.
Later, the JICA team visited the Simli and Sangjani Water Filtration Plants to review the existing facilities and assess requirements for improvement.
Senior officials including the Member Administration CDA, Director General Islamabad Water, and other relevant officers also attended the meeting.
