London (International Desk) –
Despite a year overshadowed by wars, rising border tensions, and escalating trade disputes, five countries continue to be ranked among the world’s most peaceful nations, according to the Global Peace Index (GPI) 2025.
For the 17th consecutive year, Iceland has secured the top position, followed by Ireland, New Zealand, Austria, and Switzerland.
Residents in these countries say their culture, policies, and community trust allow them to live without fear—many even leave their doors unlocked, and in some cases, police do not carry firearms.
The 2025 GPI highlights a troubling global picture, noting that the number of state-based conflicts has reached the highest level since World War II, with three new conflicts breaking out this year alone. Many nations are responding with higher military expenditures, in sharp contrast to the peaceful stability of the top-ranked states.
