Washington — President Donald Trump has abruptly cancelled a major concert planned at the National Mall to mark America’s 250th Independence Day on July 4th, replacing it with a “Make America Great Again” rally scheduled for June 24th, which he will address personally.
Announcing the decision on his Truth Social platform, Trump offered a blunt explanation: “The singers charge too much money and their music is annoying.”
However, American media reports suggest a more telling backdrop — several artists had already refused to perform at the event in recent days, leaving organisers struggling to fill the lineup.
The concert was part of an ambitious 16-day celebrations announced by Trump’s non-profit group “Freedom” to commemorate the historic semiquincentennial of American independence. With the concert now scrapped, the centrepiece of the celebrations has been replaced with a political rally, drawing criticism from opposition figures who called the move an attempt to turn a national milestone into a partisan event.
