Lahore – As Pakistan prepares for the new fiscal year 2026-27, the government of Punjab has proposed a record development budget of Rs 1,450 billion, positioning the province as the clear leader among all four provinces and even surpassing the federal government’s development outlay.
According to official documents, the combined Annual Development Plans (ADPs) of all four provinces have been proposed at Rs 3,138 billion, reflecting an increase of Rs 76 billion compared to the previous fiscal year.
Provincial Breakdown:
Punjab: Rs 1,450 billion
Sindh: Rs 816 billion
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Rs 564 billion
Balochistan: Rs 308 billion
The federal government’s Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) has been set at Rs 1,126 billion, which is significantly lower than Punjab’s proposed development spending alone.
Punjab’s development budget is expected to focus on key sectors including transport, education, health, agriculture, sanitation, and law and order. The province is also projected to receive around Rs 144 billion in foreign assistance.
This ambitious allocation signals the Punjab government’s strong emphasis on infrastructure development and public service delivery ahead of the new financial year.
