LAHORE: Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs Punjab, Fazlur Rehman, has directed relevant officials to ensure the completion of all sports development schemes by June 30, stating that hurdles affecting ongoing projects are being addressed and resolved.
He issued these instructions while chairing an important review meeting at the Punjab Stadium on Monday. The meeting focused on preparations for sports programmes scheduled for June and the progress of other key departmental initiatives.
The meeting was attended by Muhammad Tariq Qureshi, Additional Secretary Sports Shabbir Hussain Cheema, Director Administration Abid Shaukat, Director Sports Chand Perveen, Director Youth Affairs M Fahad, and other officials of the Sports Board Punjab.
Addressing participants, Fazlur Rehman directed sports officers to accelerate preparations for the Chief Minister Punjab Schools Games, adding that progress on the event and other sports programmes would be reviewed every Monday.
He said he was personally monitoring sports development projects and stadium facilities across Punjab. In this regard, he recently visited sports complexes in Sialkot, Daska and Gujrat. He noted that sports facilities in all districts of the province were being reviewed in a phased manner.
The secretary further stated that the Chief Minister of Punjab had declared 2026 as the “Year of Youth” and that an annual sports calendar had been prepared to provide young people with greater opportunities to showcase their sporting talent.
He added that the Punjab Sports Department was utilizing all available resources to encourage youth participation in healthy and constructive activities. Under the annual sports calendar, sports competitions are being organized every month across all districts of the province.
