LAHORE: The Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) rescued 236,593 victims while responding to 235,522 emergencies across the province during May 2026, according to Secretary Emergency Services Department Dr. Rizwan Naseer.
Chairing the monthly operational performance review meeting on Monday, Dr. Naseer expressed serious concern over the alarming number of road traffic accidents recorded during the month. He said that 43,160 road crashes resulted in 23,013 serious injuries and claimed 434 lives across Punjab.
The meeting was attended by Directors of Emergency Services, heads of various wings, the Provincial Monitoring Officer, and District Emergency Officers (DEOs) through video link. District officials presented operational performance reports, discussed major emergencies, challenges, case studies, lessons learned, and local initiatives.
The Head of Operations informed the meeting that Rescue 1122 responded to 235,522 emergencies during May. Accident and injury-related incidents remained the leading category with 58,233 cases, followed by 44,024 cardiovascular emergencies, 38,977 gastrointestinal cases, 19,585 respiratory emergencies, 18,071 neurological emergencies, 11,867 fever-related cases, and 9,855 fire and rescue incidents.
Other emergencies included 7,464 urinary cases, 6,047 gynecology and obstetrics emergencies, 5,549 diabetic emergencies, 5,254 crime-related incidents, 5,247 psychosocial emergencies, 4,253 back and joint pain cases, and 453 allergy-related emergencies.
According to the data, Lahore recorded the highest number of road traffic accidents, with 7,766 crashes involving 8,642 motorcycles. Faisalabad reported 2,838 accidents involving 3,096 motorcycles, while Multan recorded 2,793 accidents involving 3,199 motorcycles.
Similarly, Gujranwala reported 2,312 accidents involving 2,470 motorcycles, and Sheikhupura recorded 1,578 accidents involving 1,576 motorcycles. Murree reported the lowest number of accidents, with 158 incidents, including 132 motorcycles.
The report also revealed that major districts recorded the highest number of fire incidents. Lahore reported 760 fire emergencies, followed by Faisalabad with 236, Gujranwala with 167, Sheikhupura with 166, Multan with 163, and Sialkot with 150 incidents.
Dr. Rizwan Naseer urged citizens to avoid direct exposure to sunlight during the ongoing heatwave and advised people to take precautionary measures while outdoors. He also emphasized the importance of following safety protocols at recreational water sites, urging visitors not to enter water bodies or board boats without wearing life jackets.
“Public safety remains our top priority. Citizens must adopt preventive measures to protect themselves from heat-related illnesses and water-related accidents,” he said.
