ISLAMABAD (Special Report): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif chaired a high-level review meeting on the implementation of the National Tariff Policy 2025-30 and the overall trajectory of Pakistan’s economic development.

Addressing the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that achieving export-led growth targets remains the government’s foremost priority. He emphasized that the effective and transparent functioning of the National Tariff Commission is indispensable for promoting domestic industry, trade, and investment. The Prime Minister directed the Commission to play a proactive role in facilitating investors and industrialists, and called for modernization of its systems through the adoption of global best practices, cutting-edge technology, information technology, and artificial intelligence.
According to the briefing presented at the meeting, the National Tariff Policy 2025-30 envisages a phased reduction in tariffs across multiple sectors to achieve export-oriented economic growth targets. To boost the logistics sector, duties on refrigerated containers and semi-trailers will be abolished. Customs duties on specialized vehicles and machinery for the construction sector will be significantly reduced. Furthermore, to facilitate the pharmaceutical sector, customs duties on raw materials — particularly those used in the production of cancer medicines — will be completely eliminated.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Ministers Azam Nazir Tarar, Musadiq Malik, Ahad Khan Cheema, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Ali Pervez Malik, Minister of State Bilal Azhar Kayani, PM’s Special Assistant Haroon Akhtar, and senior government officials.
