United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has expressed deep concern over Israel’s decision to close key crossing points into the Gaza Strip and suspend the entry of humanitarian and commercial goods.
UN Spokesperson Farhan Haq told reporters that following missile attacks toward Israel, Israeli authorities closed the Kerem Shalom crossing — the only crossing operational for cargo into Gaza over the past two weeks. “Right now, no crossing point is open. Distribution is happening inside Gaza, but nothing is coming in from outside,” Haq said.
Guterres called for the immediate resumption of large-scale humanitarian movement into and across Gaza, urging all parties to facilitate rapid, safe, and unimpeded aid delivery in accordance with international law, including international humanitarian law. The UN chief stressed that humanitarian assistance is indispensable for the survival and well-being of Gaza’s civilian population.
Haq reiterated that the United Nations does not accept the closure of crossings and demands the restoration of normal humanitarian and commercial movement.
Meanwhile, in the occupied West Bank, Israeli forces opened fire on a Palestinian family’s vehicle in the Tal Rumeida area. The UN called on Israel to investigate the killing of a seven-month-old infant and stressed that Palestinians must be protected under the law, with violators held accountable.
According to Palestinian figures, at least 951 Palestinians have been killed and 2,984 wounded in near-daily Israeli strikes since the ceasefire came into effect. Israeli military raids, arrests, and settlement expansion in the occupied West Bank have also intensified since the start of the Gaza war in October 2023.
