Sources say Iran and the US could digitally sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) today, with President Trump accepting most of Iran’s demands, including lifting sanctions on oil exports and immediately releasing billions of dollars in frozen assets.
In return, Iran will end its blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. Talks on US demands regarding Iran’s nuclear program will be postponed for 60 days. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the preliminary agreement shows Iran has emerged stronger from the conflict.
A US official said no funds will be released until Iran fulfills its obligations and the Strait of Hormuz remains open. Sources indicate US Vice President JD Vance and Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf could sign the MOU by Sunday, with Geneva preferred as the signing location.
Israel has been excluded from the negotiations. PM Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel will not be party to the agreement. Araghchi said the deal would end the war in Lebanon, but Israel’s defense minister rejected any withdrawal from Lebanese territory.
