WASHINGTON — The United States Department of the Treasury has issued a general license authorizing the production, transportation, and sale of Iranian crude oil, petrochemicals, and petroleum products, in a significant shift in American sanctions policy toward Tehran.
According to the Treasury Department, the license will remain in effect until August 21, 2026, and will also permit the importation of Iranian oil and petroleum products into the United States during this period.
However, the license comes with notable restrictions. The transfer of Iranian oil to North Korea, Cuba, and Ukraine remains strictly prohibited under the terms of the authorization.
The move is being viewed as a remarkable development amid ongoing diplomatic and economic tensions between Washington and Tehran, with analysts expecting the decision to have far-reaching implications for global energy markets and geopolitical alignments in the region.
