LAHORE: Director General Sports Punjab Muhammad Tariq Qureshi inaugurated the Sports Board Punjab’s special nutrition programme for women hockey players at the National Hockey Stadium on Tuesday, reaffirming the department’s commitment to improving the health, fitness and performance of female athletes.
Deputy Director Zahoor Ahmed, former women hockey player Sehrish Ghumman, and other officials attended the launch ceremony. During the event, the Director General met women hockey players and distributed fruits, milk and other nutritious food items among them.
Speaking on the occasion, Muhammad Tariq Qureshi said that the special diet programme has been introduced to enhance the physical fitness and overall well-being of women hockey players across Punjab.
“Under this initiative, female athletes will receive essential nutritional items on a daily basis to support their physical development and improve their sporting performance,” he said.
The Director General emphasized that physical fitness plays a vital role in achieving success in sports, adding that a healthy and balanced diet is one of the key factors in maintaining athletic performance.
He noted that many women hockey players belong to middle-income and lower-middle-income families and may not always have access to adequate nutrition required for high-level sports participation.
“The provision of fruits, milk and other essential dietary items will contribute significantly to the players’ growth, health and overall well-being,” he said.
Muhammad Tariq Qureshi further stated that stronger and healthier athletes are naturally better equipped to perform at their highest potential in competitive sports.
He added that the initiative reflects Sports Board Punjab’s continued commitment to the promotion and development of women’s sports and aims to provide female athletes with the support necessary to excel at provincial and national levels.
The programme is expected to benefit women hockey players training at the National Hockey Stadium and contribute to the long-term development of women’s hockey in Punjab.
