FATEH JANG, Punjab — Farmers and landowners in village Shehray Bahadur, Tehsil Fateh Jang, have launched protests against state-owned Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) after its Survey Camp SP1 continued seismic and geological surveys on private agricultural land for nearly a year without disbursing any compensation to affected residents.
Local sources confirmed that not a single farmer or landowner has received payment since survey operations commenced, and the company has yet to officially communicate the per-kanal compensation rate to the affected community — a move residents say has bred deep mistrust toward the state enterprise.
Despite filing multiple written complaints, petitions, and reminders to camp authorities, neither the SP1 camp administration nor Party Chief SP1 has taken any remedial action. Farmers say the prolonged survey activities have caused significant disruption to agriculture, livelihoods, and local businesses, with their grievances consistently going unheard.
The affected community has formally appealed to OGDCL’s Managing Director and senior government officials, demanding immediate payment of compensation at official government rates and swift resolution of outstanding issues faced by local residents, farmers, and businesses.
This correspondent contacted Party Chief SP1 Muhammad Israel for an official response, however no statement was received at the time of publication. The outlet remains willing to publish his version of events should he choose to respond.
