Russian President Vladimir Putin has pledged to ensure the security of his nation after a fresh wave of Ukrainian strikes, condemning what he called “terrorist attacks on our territory and infrastructure facilities.” The Russian leader’s remarks came as Ukraine escalated its campaign of striking deep inside Russian territory.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that Ukrainian forces had carried out new attacks on two oil refineries inside Russia, marking a significant escalation in Kyiv’s strategy of targeting Moscow’s energy infrastructure. Zelenskyy framed the strikes as a necessary response to Russia’s continued aggression, asserting that Russia must bear the cost of its war.
The strikes underscore Ukraine’s increasingly bold approach of hitting Russian fuel and energy assets, a tactic aimed at disrupting the Russian war machine’s supply chains and weakening its capacity to sustain prolonged military operations.
Analysts note that repeated strikes on oil refineries could have far-reaching consequences for Russia’s domestic fuel supply and military logistics, while also sending a strong signal to Moscow that no part of Russian territory remains beyond reach.
The conflict, now well into its fourth year, shows no signs of abating, with both sides ramping up military pressure amid stalled diplomatic efforts.
“Russia will feel the consequences of this war on its own soil,” Zelenskyy said in his nightly address.
