LAHORE: The Punjab government has formally launched Phase-II of the Local Roads Programme following the successful completion of the first phase, with work under way on 438 road projects across the province.
The progress was reviewed during a meeting chaired by Punjab Minister for Communications and Works Malik Sohaib Ahmad Bharth. The meeting was attended by Secretary Communications & Works Raja Jahangir Anwar, the Special Secretary, Additional Secretary, Chief Engineers, and other senior officials, while Executive Engineers (XENs) joined via video link.
Officials informed the meeting that 1,134 development schemes were successfully completed under Phase-I of the Local Roads Programme within a record 75 days, paving the way for the launch of the second phase.
During the meeting, Malik Sohaib Ahmad Bharth assigned field formations the target of completing the construction of 164 roads by July 30 under Phase-II.
The Provincial Minister directed all field officers to replicate the success of the first phase and emphasized that no compromise would be tolerated on the quality of road construction. He said the government is committed to ensuring durable infrastructure and timely completion of development projects to improve connectivity and facilitate the public.
Field officers assured the minister that they would meet the assigned target and complete the construction of 164 roads by the July 30 deadline while maintaining the required quality standards.
