Islamabad Report by Muhammad Saleem) — The Lawyers’ Action Committee has announced the launch of a countrywide lawyers’ movement after the end of court vacations. Ali Ahmed Kurd will lead the movement.
Addressing a press conference in front of the Supreme Court, Hamid Khan Advocate and other lawyers stated that a resolution has been passed for the movement under the leadership of Ali Ahmed Kurd. The text of the resolution was read out to the media.
Key Points of the Resolution:
The current procedure for the appointment of High Court judges is extremely destructive.
The interview process for judges has become a mockery.
Deep concern over the situation in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The same past mistakes are being repeated in Kashmir.
Condemnation of the detention of Imam Mazari, Hadi Chatha, Mahrang Baloch, and founder of PTI to suppress dissenting voices.
Strong condemnation of alleged rigging in Bar Council elections.
Ali Ahmed Kurd said that on the insistence of his colleagues, he has reluctantly accepted the leadership of the movement. He added that the issue is no longer limited to the 26th and 27th Constitutional Amendments; the people’s trust in the political system has been shaken.
He announced that the first public rally of the movement will be held in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and a program will also be organized in London for overseas Pakistanis.
The lawyers vowed to continue the movement for the independence of the judiciary, constitutional supremacy, and protection of public rights.
