WASHINGTON: The Trump administration has announced new tariffs on imports from 60 trading partners, including Pakistan and the European Union, set to take effect from Friday.
Under the new measures, Pakistani goods will face a 10% tariff, while imports from the EU and other affected countries will be subject to tariffs of up to 12.5%.
US officials say the move is being taken over allegations that the affected countries have failed to adequately enforce restrictions against forced labor practices.
Trade analysts warn the tariffs could hurt Pakistan’s exports, particularly in the textile and garment sectors, given that the US is one of Pakistan’s largest export markets.
