MADRID/GAZA: Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has issued an emotional message of thanks after a Palestinian girl named Lian and local artists in Gaza created a mural of him.
The mural was made as a gesture of Palestinian solidarity with Spain amid Israel’s ongoing war in Gaza. In his video message, Sánchez said: “I thank Lian and all the local artists of Gaza from the bottom of my heart. Your love and trust mean a great deal to me.”
He added that he constantly thinks of the children and families of Gaza, and that the Spanish people are not unaware of their suffering. “The people of Spain hear you, see you, care about you, and will never forget you,” Sánchez said, expressing hope that Gaza’s children would soon be able to live in peace, free from bombing, and return to school.
Sánchez had earlier revealed that he keeps a drawing made by a child from Gaza in his office as a reminder of the human toll of the war. Spain is among the European countries that have formally recognized the State of Palestine and has repeatedly called for a ceasefire, unimpeded humanitarian access, and respect for international humanitarian law. The video message quickly went viral on social media.
