LGH, Pakistan Association of Dermatologists Hold Symposium on Expanding Therapeutic Horizons in Atopic Dermatitis

Cutting-Edge Research and Novel Therapies Are Delivering Better Patient Outcomes, Says Prof. Dr. Muhammad Farooq Afzal

Lahore General Hospital (LGH), in collaboration with the Pakistan Association of Dermatologists, organized a symposium titled “New Horizons in the Management of Atopic Dermatitis: Expanding the Spectrum of Available Therapies”, bringing together leading dermatologists, medical experts, postgraduate trainees, and students to discuss the latest advances in the treatment of atopic dermatitis.

Presiding over the symposium, Principal Postgraduate Medical Institute Prof. Dr. Muhammad Farooq Afzal said that rapid advances in medical research and the development of innovative pharmacotherapies are transforming the management of dermatological diseases, enabling patients to benefit from more effective and higher-quality treatment. He noted that modern therapeutic approaches and biological agents have opened new avenues of hope for patients suffering from chronic and complex conditions such as atopic dermatitis.

Prof. Afzal emphasized that healthcare professionals must remain up to date with the latest scientific research and medical innovations to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care. He added that promoting research, professional training, and continuing medical education is essential for strengthening the capabilities of young physicians and improving healthcare standards.

The symposium was organized by Prof. Dr. Atif Shahzad, Head of the Department of Dermatology at LGH. Among the distinguished participants were MS LGH Prof. Dr. Faryad Hussain, Prof. Tariq Rashid, Prof. Ijaz Hussain, Prof. Faria Asad, Dr. Tahir Kamal, Dr. Wajiha Saeed, Dr. Sadia Siddiqui, Dr. Ayma Shaheen, Dr. Samreen Rafi, Dr. Sana Mozammil, Dr. Ahmad Kazmi, Dr. Hina Manzoor, Dr. Nida Ellie, and Dr. Muhammad Urooj, along with a large number of consultants, dermatologists, postgraduate trainees, and medical students.

Experts at the symposium discussed the latest therapeutic strategies for atopic dermatitis, including emerging pharmacological treatments, biological therapies, and evidence-based approaches to improving patient care. They agreed that early diagnosis, timely intervention, appropriate treatment protocols, and regular follow-up can significantly reduce the disease burden and improve patients’ quality of life.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Atif Shahzad described atopic dermatitis as a chronic inflammatory skin disease that affects both the physical and psychological well-being of patients. He said that ongoing scientific research and advances in modern medicine have considerably expanded the treatment options available for managing the condition.

The symposium concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, allowing participants to engage with experts on clinical challenges and emerging research in dermatology. Dr. Sadia Siddiqui thanked the speakers and participants for their valuable contributions and reaffirmed LGH’s commitment to organizing similar academic programs to promote medical research, professional development, and excellence in patient care.
