The Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has expressed deep concern over what it described as an alarming rise in Islamophobia in India, particularly after the April attacks in Pahalgam, Kashmir.
In a statement, the IPHRC said it appeared that Muslims are being deliberately targeted by far-right Hindu nationalist groups, pointing to an escalation of anti-Muslim hate speech and violence across several regions.
The commission urged the United Nations and the Government of India to ensure a transparent, impartial investigation into these incidents and to hold perpetrators accountable.
The OIC’s rights body further emphasized that unchecked hate crimes and communal violence risk undermining regional peace and stability, and called on the international community to press for safeguards of the fundamental rights of religious minorities in India.
