LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Housing Bilal Yasin has directed authorities to strengthen monitoring in low-lying areas and ensure the effective use of all available resources following rainfall in Lahore.
The minister visited several parts of the city to assess the post-rain situation, inspect drainage operations, and review the performance of the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) teams working in the field.
During the visit, Managing Director WASA Ghufran Ahmed and other senior officials briefed the minister on ongoing drainage activities and water disposal operations. Bilal Yasin also interacted with field staff to review operational challenges and instructed the WASA management to maintain continuous monitoring of vulnerable areas to prevent urban flooding.
The minister inspected drainage work at major disposal stations and key roads across the city, emphasizing the need for prompt clearance of rainwater to minimize disruption to daily life.
Speaking on the occasion, Bilal Yasin said providing immediate relief to citizens remains the Punjab government’s highest priority. He noted that WASA and the district administration are on high alert throughout the monsoon season and are working in coordination to address rain-related challenges.
He further directed the authorities to accelerate drainage operations, ensure the smooth flow of traffic after rainfall, and minimize inconvenience to the public. The minister added that all relevant government departments have been fully mobilized to provide timely services and effective emergency response during the monsoon season.
