Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Tuesday that Iran emerged victorious both militarily and diplomatically in the recent conflict, and that the confrontation has erased the global perception of Iranian weakness.
In an interview broadcast on state television, Araghchi argued that U.S. and Israeli aggression exposed Iran’s resilience and fundamentally changed international views about Tehran. He said post-war Iranian foreign policy will be “completely different” from the pre-war period.
Araghchi recalled that Washington initially demanded “unconditional surrender” but later shifted tactics — attempting regime change, division, and fomenting internal unrest — all of which he said failed. “We fought with authority and negotiated with authority,” he said, adding that Iran forced its adversaries to accept its terms.
He also claimed Iran’s military strength strengthened its diplomatic position, noting that a memorandum of understanding signed with the U.S. reportedly contained 13 clauses favorable to Iran and one favoring the United States. Araghchi accused Israel of sabotaging diplomacy and called it the main obstacle to implementing the agreement. Meanwhile, senior negotiator Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf warned that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until Washington fully meets Tehran’s demands, including lifting maritime blockades.
